Agro-Chemical and Food Company - Nairobi

Agro-Chemical and Food Company Limited (ACFC) was established in 1978 under the Companies Act Cap 486 to produce power alcohol from sugarcane molasses. It was a unique joint venture between the private sector and the Government of Kenya.

The project was identified by Mr. M.N. Mehta, Chairman, Mehta International Group. In 1982 the company shifted to producing various grades of spirits used in blending of potable alcohol, production of pharmaceutical products and as solvents in other industrial applications. The company is also the sole producer of baker’s yeast in East and Central Africa. Its flagship Brands, FURAHA® Active Dry yeast and SIFA® Wet yeast have been consistently used by major bakeries in the region.

Upon inception, the Company was under the Ministry of Energy.

However, from 1996, the Company was placed under the Ministry of Agriculture where it has been to date. The company has continuously diversified to meet its customer needs. As a move towards value addition, its recent products entry into the market includes Beverage grade liquefied carbon dioxide (LCO2), potable bottled spirits; and the latest addition to the product line is the Mediplus® range of pharmaceutical spirits: Mediplus® surgical spirit, Mediplus® colored spirit, Mediplus® instant hand sanitizer and Mediplus® Denatured Ethyl Alcohol.
