Nairobi is the capital and the largest city of Kenya and it occupies an area of 696 km2 with an estimated population of 3million people. It composed of all the 42 tribes of Kenya and the major tribes being luo, Luhya, kikuyu, Akamba and kalenjin. The name "Nairobi" comes from the Maasai phrase Enkare which means a place of "cold water," it was also the Maasai name for the Nairobi River, which in turn lent its name to the city. However, it is popularly known as the "Green City in the Sun" and is surrounded by several expanding villa suburbs.
